Removal of implants & capsule mastopexy
Is required when previous surgery has not produced the desired outcome. This may be a factor of time, when gravity and the implant have stretched the breast envelope. If combined with ‘capsule formation’ (scar tissue around any foreign body that contracts excessively to impair the cosmetic result), the breast may resemble a ‘rock-in-a-sock’. This usually requires removal of the prosthesis capsule, repeat augmentation is often required and mastopexy.
