Breast Surgery Breast augmentation, or ‘boob job’, is the most common cosmetic operation. Years of improvements in the safety and durability of the implants themselves, coupled with advances in surgical techniques, have combined to make this operation increasingly reliable and with shorter recovery times. Initially round, implants are now available in a wide range of anatomical shapes and sizes. All have a silicone shell, but may be filled with saline, or more commonly, silicone gel. Silicone has been scientifically proven to be safe and have no links to beast cancer, autoimmune diseases or infant diseases from breastfeeding. Breast augmentation is used not only for hypomastia (small breasts), but also asymmetry. Its most common use is probably in restoring shape after pregnancy and breastfeeding where the breast is empty and ptotic (droopy). The latter often requires mastopexy (uplift), but use of the biplanar technique – pioneered in the UK by PSP – can have a similar effect in many women without extra scars Plastic Surgery Partners have been transforminglives for approaching 40 years and through Pountney Clinic we were the first cosmetic surgery organisation in Britain. We were also the first to build a dedicated cosmetic surgery hospital although we now operate in newer state of the art hospitals. Pountney Clinic (now part of Plastic Surgery Partners) was formed well before Harley Medical Group. We hold consultations in Harley Street, at Fitzroy Hospital in London owned by the hospital group BMI, in Windsor, Channel Isles, Cardiff and Birmingham. Our surgeons include famous figures such as Dai Davies and Nick Percival, long-standing surgeons such as Philip Graham, specialist maxillofacial surgeon (and facelifts) Caroline Mills, Shailesh Vadodaria who focuses on the body and liposuction and latest Breast specialist, Miles Berry. |
